Xavier Cromwell is born into a world of eternal night. He, and all humans, live under the protection of powerful beings named the Toscaar. The Toscaar create all the structures in the towns, direct all the human work, and protect humans against all the nasty creatures within the dark world they live in. Xavier, and his friend James, are privileged to work as administrators in their town’s municipality building in which they spend their time copying the records of the Toscaar to distribute out to their central government, the Ministry of the Fire Fox.
While Xavier is an incredibly ambitious young man that aims to become a Grand Ambassador within the Central Fortress of the Emperor, his ambitions are disrupted when he hears the singing of a beautiful young woman in a rock maze near his home. Following the angelic voice, he finds the woman, and to his surprise, she is able to harness magic similar to the Toscaar. His heart is captured by this intriguing person. Unfortunately for Xavier, he learns that she is leaving town, which is something he didn’t know could be done without the Toscaar. His friend James pushes him into the unknown to follow his heart and discover who this girl is.
Going out into the world, James and Xavier are ill-prepared for the dangers that lurk. Luckily for them, the girl finds them at the last moment and saves their lives. Her name is Sohni Wingsper, and she is the Sacred Daughter of the Order of the Palishiree. The mysterious, young, and bubbly savior brings the two boys back to her home, the Stronghold of the Order of the Palishiree, which is a secret, matriarchal religious order that lives underground and is tasked with combating the treacherous and deceitful Toscaar. Xavier and James are introduced to an array of interesting characters that teach them about art, life, love, and magic. It is during this time that the Mystic of the Palishiree unveils to Xavier that he is, indeed, the Chosen One.
It is learned that this world used to have day and night. All life in the world sprung from the Celestial Tree in which the wise blue Owl lived in the top branches and the clever fire Fox lived in a burrow under the Tree. These three created the balance of the world. However, paradise was lost when humans entered the forest, abducted the Fox, and plunged the world into night. As the Chosen One, Xavier is to go to the Central Fortress to defeat the Toscaarin Emperor, save the Fox, and restore the Celestial Tree.
However, there is a dreadful shadow that follows Xavier, Sohni, James, and other friends on their journey to the Central Fortress! Alessa, the Overseer, is the top lieutenant of the Emperor, and is tasked with chasing down the Chosen One as he goes on his quest. Before the Chosen One can fulfill his destiny with the Emperor, he must deal with the villain that has a tragic beginning that is tied to the Sacred Daughter, Sohni.
Through this journey, our band of heroes learn mystical and enchanting lessons of love, courage, identity, pain, forgiveness, and hope.
What will happen when the Chosen One learns the truth about the world he lives in? Who is the Emperor? Who is Xavier? Who is Sohni? Who is Alessa? All these questions are answered in the exciting and mind-bending culmination of this fast-paced story.
